Latin American Beauty

I love exotic plants, my ambition is to have a room, maybe a lean to conservatory type thingy, just to house them. Doubt if I'll get there. but it's good to dream. Meanwhile, the kitchen windowsill is very effective as it faces north east, no strong direct sunlight.

This is Achmea Bromeliad, the same family as pineapple. I first saw it in the Caribbean. The leaves are a treat on their own, but when the flower bracts emerge, it becomes spectacular and can last for months. This flower has been out for a while now, you can tell by the teeny tiny purplish flowers emerging between the bracts. After flowering, babies emerge from the mother plant, these can be potted up to make new ones. The one slight drawback is they get so top heavy they do have a tendency to topple over like Saturday night drinkers, so pots have to be weighted. The one thing they don't enjoy is being re-potted. My perfect house plant.

Indoor blip today, weather is unmentionable.
