Lines in Autumn

A Fence 

The leaves have blown against the fence
and some have stuck there.

Spots of brown hanging
on the silver grid of chain link.

Spots of paint remaining on a faded sign.

Was there a message written in the leaves?

Or do the leaves obscure it?

While Bella and I were taking a walk, she found a pine cone. When she tossed it away, I thought the composition of weathered grey fence boards, with the stacked and yellow leaves in the sunshine was a nice one.
