A meet up at the local bus stop with Cigs and weans to head up to Tynecastle for a very well attended Scottish Cup third round game against a spritely Airdrieonians team, flying high in Division One. Their fans had turned out in good numbers and wasted no time in mocking us in our plight, languishing as we are, "five points adrift" at the bottom of the table. “That’s why you’re going down” they lustily sang every time one of our shots went wide. And shots aplenty we did have, with luckily five of them finding the back of their net over the course of the ninety minutes. Aye! Haw!
(Actually we were only one-nil up at half time and if we give the Bears the opportunities we here gave to the Diamonds, we might end up getting well thumped next weekend)
Special mentions to Andy Irving, the nineteen year old from Portobello who played with great composure and intelligence in midfield, another nineteen year, Euan Henderson who caused all sorts of trouble up front and Sean Clare who has discovered a new lease of life in the full back role and who may well be beginning to win the fans over. Incidentally he scored an absolute peach of a goal. A belter. A volley. And actually the much unloved Ollie Bozanic who I’ve always thought brought a bit of necessary dig to the team.
