Guys. From Poland With Love

I drove Emma to Tampere, girls traveled to Espoo for afternoon's game. I had Peetu with me, we walked a short tour in the Koskipuisto park and dropped by in the Robert's cafe. I photographed this distribution cabinet next to the Hotel Tammer.  There's one of the Backlight 2017 Photo Festival photographies on it.

Oiko Petersen (born 1983) made his big break at the artistic scene with the series of staged photo portraits under the title Guys. From Poland With Love (2006). One of the characteristic features of the series was the fact that the author approached the topic of sexual minorities in a laid-back manner. This pot-bellied circus strongman wearing make-up
is one of the 11 portraits. Petersen has said that "they do not have to be perceived as the portraits of homosexuals; but various attempts to present manhood, which does not have to always take the same macho-style form, from different perspectives." Despite these declarations, the guys quickly became one of the artistic icons of the dynamically-evolving gay movement in Poland.

We went to see Emma's game to my parents-in-law's. Pyrintö women lost today for the first time in this season: EBT-Pyrintö 75-70. Emma was back home late in the evening.
