Pickled Cucumber

Back a while ago from lunch in Southbourne with M&H, K&N. We arrived in torrential rain. Being a ‘gentlewoman’, I dropped M&H off at the door while Mr B and I drove round looking for a space (the other 2 arrived separately).

Lunch was an all you can eat all vegan roast lunch (other days they serve animals) at an eco friendly eaterie. Minimalist cool decor, black and white). Recycled furniture, no waste - left overs turned into compost, no bottled mineral water, no menus - you get the gist. Even an aquaponic* growing system (Google if you want to know more*).

I think we all enjoyed lunch, although perhaps fish or meat would have been preferred by my friends.
.
The highlight for those that ‘did’ was possibly a trip to the loo - to the accompaniment of a soundtrack of David Attenborough narrating the process of a snake eating a frog. Although they thought the lighting was too dark in there.

Then back to ours with M&H for coffee and air fried bananas.

Been researching pickling recipes. Bought small cucumbers yesterday. Now salted and ready to cover with brine in an hour so. Pity don’t have any dill. Will keep in fridge, they will soon be eaten. If a success, must invest in proper jars for longer term storage.

Didn’t have time to think about blip until now. So have layered an image of the sliced cucumber, and the brine (the ‘spots’ are coriander, mustard and caraway seeds).

All quiet out now the wind and heavy rain have moved on. Must catch up with the news properly, but know there’s been some bad flooding in Wales and further North. Hope none of you are affected.

NB Jar of Pickled Cucumbers ready to cool in extras. Sadly didn’t have any dill.
