James Gowans For Sale

Sir James Gowans was a prolific architect in the C19, best known for his use of a wide variety of stone types, as demonstrated in Rockville, aka The Pagoda House, which he designed as his residence, (this was demolished in 1966) and Lammerburn, the house opposite (which survives). There are several buildings of his in Edinburgh and beyond that are recognisable at a glance.

Category 'A' listed numbers 23 and 25 Blacket Place show his characteristic multicoloured detailing; number 25 is currently for sale so, if you would like to live in a genuine James Gowans house, rush to the estate agent and make your offer. No, I'm not on commission but you can invite me for tea...
