Hobbit-Footed Bee

Yesterday I saw a pair of hairy-footed flower bees flying around a clump of white dead nettle. The female is like a big black bumble bee and the male has a noticeable yellow face. I've never photographed these insects before but have heard and seen lots about them

Robin, who used to help us on the nursery, kindly gives me hyacinths every Christmas. I put them in the raised bed outside the back door. I was very excited to see a male hairy-footed flower bee on a bloom this afternoon. His hairy leg and foot can be seen in my image. It is thought that this hairiness is a turn-on for females.
