PawsClaws n Tails outWest

One of those days..

Small animal day... always seems to be one of those days. Overflowing washing machine and working in the dark with only a dim torch due to power cuts. Comedy of errors from start to finish!

This very sick little girl was being kept by the military in their temporary camp across the river. She would have been destined to be eaten - had she not gotten sick. They asked us to treat her as well as some other sick puppies. We were happy to but our policy on offering free treatment for dogs and cats is that the owners commit to not being a part of the dog/cat meat trade. Which means not consuming dog or cat meat, not breeding for the trade and committing to desexing all their dogs and cats. They of course were not willing to do this. As hard as it is, at some point we have to say no.

Somehow one of the military guys got in touch with two of our bear workers and asked them if they would take her. The hide... Hao and Tuan are good pet owners and have already taken on another sick adult dog that has a chronic long term problem that the previous owner wasn't willing to deal with. Now they get an extremely sick puppy that stands a very good chance of not making it. If she does get better Hao and Tuan will be keeping her and she won't be going back to the military. But the virus she has is all too familiar and I don't want to get my hopes up. She is such a sweetheart too. She is so weak and ill but still manages to lift one leg up in an attempt to ask for belly scratches every time we go and check on her. Fingers crossed for this little girl.

On a positive note, two very sick puppies from two months ago were back in for desexing today and they remembered me! Tails wagging and very happy and healthy. Can't ask for much more than that :)
