Lent 2020 day 37

’And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’ (Philippians 4:7)

Despite the underlying chaos - the Parade was very peaceful this afternoon!

Claudia Moreira writes:

“Violence and hate plague our planet, unsettling our souls. How can Christians be equipped for peacebuilding? I found vital answers in Paul's Philippian letter, when he deals with two symptoms of lacking peace: disunity (4:2) and anxiety (4:6).

Peace is sourced in God through prayer: ‘in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God’ (4:6, NRSV).

Peace of God surpasses comprehension: ‘peace is better than all understanding.’

Peace of God shields heart and mind: ‘the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’

Peace is sustained by Jesus Christ: ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.’ (John 14:27, ESV)

Father God,
Today may we find peace in our fellowship with you. May your outrageous peace keep our hearts and minds secure, and soak our relationships with fellow humans and the whole of creation.
Amen.”
