Illuminations

I've been meaning to get to Lacock Abbey to see the illuminated cloisters since the display opened, but adverse weather conditions, illness and other factors had prevented me. Today was my last chance before it closes tomorrow, and I was able to get there just a few short minutes before it closed at 1600 hr.

This was the first time they had attempted the display and it was something of an experiment, but reaction has been sufficiently positive that they hope to repeat it next year or the year after with extended opening hours. This would be a huge improvement as illuminations work better in the dark and sunset today was not until 1630 hr. I'm told that the Abbey is also lit externally and the lights are left on overnight. If I am able to get there tomorrow evening I will add further images to the set linked to below.

This image was taken in a room off the cloisters and shows a section of the stone floor.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Pink Floyd - Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (recorded 7-8 August, October 1967, January 1968)
It was on this day 45 years ago that Pink Floyd were en route to a gig in Southampton when they decided not to collect their troubled songwriter and guitarist Syd Barrett, thus setting the band off on a new tangent. Syd agreed to leave officially a few weeks later.
Dave Gilmour had earlier been drafted in as second guitarist and so had often depped for Syd on many occasions when he had been unfit to play.
According to an interview with David Gilmour in 2006, Set The Controls For The Heart Of the Sun features minor guitar work from both David Gilmour and Syd Barrett, and so is the only Pink Floyd recording to feature all five band members.
Roger Waters "borrowed" some of the lyrics from the Chinese poetry collection Poems Of The Late T'ang, translated by AC Graham. Among the lines were those written by Li He, whose poem Don't Go Out Of The Door contained the line "Witness the man who raved at the wall as he wrote his questions to Heaven", and Li Shangyin's, who wrote "watch little by little the night turns around", "countless the twigs which tremble in dawn" and "one inch of love is one inch of ashes."
