One daze at a time...

Topical

Mrs Raheny was remarking while having breakfast (2 day old croissants and fresh-ish toast) that Luca's Father Ted mug is particularly relevant at the moment.
We discussed globalisation and the consequences of having most of the global manufacturing of mass-produced goods done in one place.
The Irish Heath Service Executive was quite transparent today in announcing that roughly 20% of the large consignment of PPE it is currently getting from the PRC is not fit for purpose.
It is not unusual in times of desperation to see substandard shite being flogged at overly inflated prices (pandemics, football away kits, Six Nations rugby tickets, U2 farewell tours, Canada goose parkas to name a few).
It's nothing personal, it's just business. The fundamental law of offer and demand.
Still, there is some consolation in the knowledge that the guys working 14 hours a day in the factories that make fake FFP2 masks have seen their wages increased by 250% since the beginning of March.

As if...

PS: Mrs Raheny was reaching for her own cup there, not the mug. Her hands are small but not that tiny. It's a small/far away thing, to stay with the Fr Ted theme.
