Lucky Tangerine or Orange Trees

Every CNY in China and here in HK, there are orange or tangerine plants/trees placed in the entrance of shops, lobbies or as decorations in homes. The significance of this is that the bright orange colour resembles the colour gold, which symbolises wealth. And apparently, the Chinese word for tangerine sounds similar to the word 'luck' and the Chinese word for orange sounds like 'wealth', in Chinese ofcourse'.

These plants can be used as gifts signifying wealth and luck, which the Chinese fully believe in. And they usually place two together or on either side of an entrance, inviting double luck and double wealth. As I mentioned about the red packets or 'Lai See' last week, which are usually given in twos as well.

These plants are placed in the entrance lobby of the building we live in and the red ornament has some pretty Chinese writing which I'm sure reads Happy New Year (Kung Hei Fat Choi) and something about good fortune and luck, traditional Chinese greetings.
