Dreaming Giraffes

Perhaps these giraffes are dreaming of warm African plains on this wet and windy afternoon in Edinburgh. Their official title is 'Dreaming Spires' and they were made in 2005 of scrap metal from motorbikes and cars by Helen Dennerly but they have been nicknamed Martha and Gilbert.
They stand in a circle of raised bronze letters by a poem written by Roy Campbell.
Giraffes! - a People
Who live between the earth and skies
Each in his own religious steeple
Keeping a lighthouse with his eyes.
