Social Distancing – Day 50

Edinburgh Bridges #22 – Warriston/Cannonmills

A wee revisit to my project to blip the bridges of Edinburgh.

This bridge took the Waverley – Granton railway over the Water of Leith just before the Warriston Junction. The bridge was built in 1845 as part of the initial Scotland St to Granton railway which included the Scotland St Tunnel but given the issues with the tunnel and the fact that the connection to Waverly did not match the developments there the railway was discontinued for passenger use and was used as a goods line as far south as the Scotland St Tunnel. The initial caost of the entire Waverly to Granton was £100000 and the returns proposed was set for 15%. I wonder if anyone made money on their investment. The supplentary image is taken from the top of the bridge looking back towards Canonmills and up to the castle.
