One Street: car park

I was a bit surprised by how many people found the scene in my first One Street blip charming! So I though I'd post a more general view of place Cabrié today, to give a more accurate picture. As you can see, it's a car park; up till maybe 30 years ago, the areas where the cars are parked had houses on them. Under the new plans, the area to the left will be an open space with a kind of "market hall" structure to provide shade.

On the right is a mural of a wine shop painted by apprentices some years ago. The rue du Château (my last One Street blip) is just this side of the mural, running off to the right. From what I remember of the plans, this building is one of the ones that will be demolished. The only actual shop on place Cabrié is the bakery you can see straight ahead. It's small and unassuming, and tucked away from the main shopping area, so only locals know about it. They bake the best pain au levain (sourdough) in Lézignan, using a wood-fired oven -- you have to get there early if you want some. Finally, on the right, behind the bakery, is the church of St Félix. Look large for a better view.

The redevelopment of this area is a bit of a gamble, I think. It could end up being deserted, if there isn't enough reason for people to venture off the main street. You can see that apart from the cars, it was deserted today -- and it's market day!
