Black Swans on Lake Taupo

Lake Taupo (new Zealand) was created 2 thousand years ago when a huge volcano erupted spewing 24 cubic kilometers of ash & debris (more than 10 times that produced by Krakatoa & Mount St Helens combined) so far into the atmosphere that it was carried around the world. Historians are able to pinpoint the date of the eruption to 186 AD.
The Chinese recorded a blackening of the sky and the Romans saw the heavens turn blood red.

Cool!
