LOCK DOWN – DAY 78

Today we have had a lazy day because we were both still pretty tired from our mammoth walk yesterday.  Also Ann has embarked on a 14 day 'free' online exercise programme which she started on Sunday and her thighs were very a bit sore after doing too many squats before our mammoth walk yesterday.

This afternoon Ann didn't really know where to walk me, so she said, 'Trixie, lets go looking for the blue post box.' Apparently five post boxes in the UK have been painted blue by the Royal Mail as a way of thanking the NHS workers for their efforts during the Coronavirus crisis.

The post boxes are located outside hospitals where Coronavirus patients are being treated in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh. …...........Except the blue post box in Edinburgh is no where near a hospital, let alone the Royal Infirmary (where the Coronavirus patients are being treated), which is actually more than 3 miles away from where the blue post box is?!!

Honestly how stupid are some people? We're assuming that someone, somewhere, instructed a 'painter' to go and paint a post box blue, but didn't actually tell them why they were painting a post box blue??? The 'post box painter' probably just carried out the instructions to paint the post box blue in the location he was given on google maps by someone who probably doesn't even live in Edinburgh.

Sooooo......... the Edinburgh blue post box is in a suburban street more than 3 miles away from the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. It's just another example of 'technology' thinking that it knows better than humans. Do you think that if this 'lovely show of thanks from the Royal Mail' had happened during World War 1 or 2 this kind of mistake would have happened? No it wouldn't. The 'post box' painter would have been told why he was painting a red post box blue, and if he'd arrived at his post box destination and seen that the post box was outside a block of flats and not a hospital he would have realised he was in the wrong place. #justsaying

Anyway I got Blipped here because, actually, as there's only five blue post boxes in the whole of the UK, I felt quite privileged to be photographed next to one.

PS – For the first time in more than 11 weeks we walked past Waitrose at 8.30am and there were NO queues. And there were none outside M&S at 3.30 this afternoon either. #thingscanonlygetbetter
