Social Distancing – Day 81

In these weird days of iconoclasm (now that’s a word you don’t often see in blip comments) there is talk of removing the chap on top of the 150ft pillar at the back, a Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, who was involved in delaying the abolition of The Slavery Act of the late 18th Century. The chap in front would be a suitable replacement. If they were around in the mid 19th Century James Clerk Maxwell would have been awarded the Nobel Prize for physics multiple times. Not only was he born in Edinburgh and had no links to the slave trade suffice it to say that of the two gents above Albert Einstein held the photograph of one on his desk for inspiration, no points for guessing which one.

On a cheerier note, here is a photograph of a man in a mask.

Oops. Nearly forgot thanks to S for the tailored mask, hope you enjoyed the scones
