Something completely different today. The title was a reference to a line in one of Terry Pratchett’s Disc World novel.

Roughly paraphrased is means “it’s very hard to speak clearly with a bar in your mouth”. This was a reference to a door knocker who said something similar about speaking with a ring in his mouth.

Sir Terry is a bit like Marmite, many love his Disc World novels, others not. I’m afraid I’m a fan. His writing and his logic sound so plausible yet you know they can’t be true, you just wish they were.

Just a few of my favourites include: “it’s unwise to stand in front of a dragon with hiccups as several smoky shadows on the wall testify”

Or the shy screaming banshee that pushes a note through the door with the words “loud scream” written on it

Or the plants called “reannuals” which you plant this year to harvest last year. And a rehangover where you feel awful today and so you can get drunk tomorrow.

And who does the Patrician remind you of?

And for blippers, a camera driven by an imp who, when you press the shutter, appears out of the camera with paints and an easel to capture the scene.
