11th night

In this place I can home we have a tradition within the unionist culture of lighting bonfires on the 11th July, the eve of the 12th parades. They can be overtly sectarian events, with Irish flags being burned.
Here is one beside my home, thankfully just wood! . The flag on the left is the union flag... For some loyalists a political symbol... Yet its use beside this fire raises issues for me. Cultural cocktails.....
We remain a contested place with parallel histories and narratives.
Peace drips slowly. But it will come.
