The Spacewalker

Had this idea a while back, but missed my window so I've done it a bit late.

March 18th 1965 saw Pavel Belyayev and Alexei Leonov blast off from Baikonur in Voskhod 2. On the second orbit Leonov left the spacecraft. His suit immediately ballooned and he was only able to re-enter the spacecraft after releasing pressure in the suit by opening a valve to space. After he got back in the ship Belyayev set about returning them to Earth. Unfortunately the airlock did not separate from the craft and as a result it landed 1000 km off course in the middle of the Siberian taiga, all that with a malfunctioning parachute system. With wolves scratching at the capsule hatch it took recovery crews a couple of days to reach the cosmonauts, warm clothing, rifles and food were dropped by helicopter into the trees for the pair. I've always thought Voskhod 2 was the greatest mission never to have hit the big screen, c'mon Ron Howard you know you want to.

So here we have the Soviet bear back in space again.

I'll dedicate this blip to those that didn't come back.
