The Unbearable Innocence of Daisies

Daisies represent innocence and purity. Yet today their bright white petals and bright yellow centers bring little joy as I watch the US sink deeper into fascism. 

Unidentified federal troops have been in Portland for more than two weeks and nightly they attack peaceful protesters, most recently a female attorney who reported on her arrest and incarceration experience. 

There's no end to damaging and detrimental policies and actions being taken by Trump.  Millions of COVID cases and deaths and the lack of leadership as the President tries to spin lies around this tragedy and muzzle scientists who speak truth.

There is, however, an upbeat and powerful story, NY Representative Andrea Ocasio-Cortez called out fellow Fla. Representative Ted Yoho for verbally attacking her on the US Capitol steps and using profanity. Her response was calm, clear, and powerful. Read the article and/or watch the included video to be uplifted. 

I will try to keep Ocasio-Cortez's powerful and dignified response in my mind and feel a little brighter. Heck, I might even pick a few daisies to add to the deep red dahlias growing in my yard.
