Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Gladys Knight and the Pips - I Heard It Through The Grapevine (recorded 17 June 1967, Hitsville, Detroit MI)
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles were the first to record this tune, then Marvin Gaye and then Gladys Knight for her album Everybody Needs Love, but her version was the first out as a single because Berry Gordy wasn't keen on Marvin Gaye's recording, though it went on to be the biggest hit single as a result of its popularity as an album track. For my money this is THE version, though: that rhythm section, that sax solo and Gladys' soaring vocal over the top. Magic.
