Lockdown Day 130 - Write your own caption.

This afternoon, a raft of around 140 goosanders (Mergus merganser) came in close to the shore at Pettycur Harbour, Fife.

The entire raft included no males, just females and juveniles being schooled in the ways of hunting. The males have b******* off up north to Norway to moult prior to their winter migration.

Goosanders, along with mergansers, are known as 'sawbills' because their hooked bills are long and slender with serrated edges. They hunt fish underwater and are particularly fond of salmon and trout.

Progressively wider angled views are included in the 'extras'.
