Monkey puzzle is a boy!

The monkey puzzle (araucaria araucana) in the Linda Vista Gardens in Abergavenny has young male cones growing, I just noticed today. You can also see the old cones that have released their pollen. The tree always impresses me with the patterns of its branches.
To quote from the Kew web-site: "The tree was introduced to Britain in 1795 by Archibald Menzies, a botanist and naval surgeon. Having been served the seeds of the tree as a dessert while dining with the governor of Chile, he stowed them on board the ship, and returned to England with five healthy plants."
