If you can't beat them...

Fort Putnam.

Another shot taken while out on the bike while Clickychick is doing her couch to 5K.  greystoke is "blessed" (if that is the right term) with 3 follies in order as you go away from the village:  Fort Putnam, Bunker's Hill, and Spire House.

This is Fort Putnam, at one time a farm with the farmyard surrounded by the high walls with the required buildings built against the wall inside.  The follies were built by Charles Howard 11th Duke of Norfolk around 1789.   The original Fort Putnam I am given to understand was a military establishment at West Point during the American War of Independence, it was completed in 1778.   What possessed the Duke to name a folly after such a place 10 years or so after the war is anybody's guess.

The white rails and buildings in the foreground are part of Nicky Richards Racing Stables which were started by his late father Gordon Richards.
