Life after Burradoo, NSW

Our beach has gone!

We got such a shock. It was a beautiful, and warmer, day today so we decided to drive over to the coast to our favourite fish and chip shop and favourite beach - Werri Beach. We can drive there without needing to stop so social distancing doesn't present any challenges.

We pulled into the lookout on the way there (Extra 1) to  enjoy the view of the beach from a distance and to see it in the context of the farmland that surrounds it. There was no one at the lookout so we got out and took some photos. Then we went on to the fish and chip shop and ordered our meal (Extra 2). We had to wait a while but the few people who were there were acting very responsibly.

After lunch we decided to have a nice stroll along the beach but got the shock of our lives when we got to the end of the short pathway to the beach to see that the beach had disappeared. The storms and wind and heavy seas that we have had over the past week or so have eroded the beach and we suddenly found ourselves on the top of a cliff of sand about 10 ft tall (see main photo). There was to be no walking along the beach. It was nearing high tide and it was a relatively calm day but from Extra 4 you can see the waves pounding against the cliff wall. Heaven only knows how long it will take for the beach to be 'rebuilt'. This is yet another blow to the local businesses that would have been looking forward to the summer coming.
