Day 231/20. "Is it well with the child?"

A memorial to a young girl undergoes restoration in Romsey Abbey today.
This touchingly beautiful sculpture is of Alice Taylor who died of scarlet fever aged just 2 years 5 months in 1843.

Alice was the daughter of Francis Taylor, a local doctor and skilled sculptor who sculpted the effigy himself in her memory.
Just imagine being a doctor who could not cure her, and then sculpting a memorial to your own daughter.....
A sad story, being lovingly restored today. (see extra images)
