EveryDay Ideas - 63 Splashing

Splashing fun at Tynemouth - making waves. The power of nature is awesome and a true sight to behold at times. It makes us seem insignificant - which in historical and evolutionary terms we really are.

An idea for today. At last!

There should be a law, or more pragmatically a convention amongst journalists (of all types) never to report with unauthenticated or anonymous sources when dealing with government departments. I am now sick to my teeth, of the BBC especially, daily reporting issues which affect all our lives using the statements:

" A government spokesman(person) says"
" A government offical replied that...."
"The department of X replied or made a statement that...."

A spokesperson could be anybody - the cleaner, the porter, a junior member of staff, a SPAD, an intern????

We should have accountability and responsibility. That means a named individual - who is paid to provide this information, official reply or statement.  If this was research just imagine - if none of it could be verified and all the reported analysis and findings were anonymous....

So - please- you lazy BBC reporters and media journalists, refuse to provide replies that can not be validated and authenticated through the cloak of anonymity. It is time to stop this complicity in fact free journalism and government.
