5 Broken Cameras

A friend hosted what may well have been the Gaza premiere of '5 Broken Cameras', a truly exceptional documentary made by a Palestinian farmer in the West Bank about the nonviolent anti-occupation protest movement.

In 2005, Emad Burnat bought a video camera to record his youngest son growing up. He also began filming the nonviolent protests in Bil'in, a village in the West Bank which was badly affected by the construction of the wall and an Israeli settlement, which are both illegal under international law. '5 Broken Cameras', so-named because five of Emad's cameras have been destroyed so far, is the resulting documentary, which is frank, unemotional, and intensely moving.

The documentary has been nominated for an Oscar for best documentary, and is available to watch online for free here.
