Noise sensitive ears

Act Two

sliding and sledding
down roof top eaves
bumping and thumping
rain soaked snow
plops and thuds sloppily

snaggled snapped branches
emerge ragged and sharp
washed from their
sodden white covers
as we slide into act two

A perfectly nasty wet sodden mess, winter wonderland no more, the snow is like wet cement. We woke up to partially white roads, now thankfully black, but filled with slush just waiting to re-freeze tonight. Black ice tomorrow morning will be the next act to deal with .

T took a vacation day, we had a slow drive to a nearby town that has power for my 10AM periodontal appointment. Then the rain started and the sloppy mess began. It's pouring and beginning to expose all the twisted tree mess , everywhere.

All the schools are closed today and as of noontime today we have been notified by a town-wide emergency email(those who have power)
there were over 100 crews and more than 200 workers from National
Grid in the town working to restore power to those still out. The roads are filled with all sorts of utility trucks with buckets and cranes . We unfortunately have few neighborhoods with underground wires, and with so many trees it's just a nightmare. More snow on the way later this week, so it will be a while until we can begin cleaning up our tree mess.

One funny observation yesterday to report. Last summer we had a small American flag hanging from our old pear tree. Just a little decorative type that you see July 4th and on the graves of service folks. Sometime in late August I noticed it was missing. I looked a bit closer at the little flag's stick, and right where the cloth had been stapled to the pole there were two gnawed spots. It looked like squirrel workmanship to me and I commented that it had probably been stolen for a nest ...look what T spied yesterday .

For the Record
This day came in gray and wet with rain making the snow wet and heavy on roof. Temps in the '40s expected drop tonight, re-freezing everything.
