An Avid Lensman

Arches & Curves...

Wasn't going to post up yet another church shot, but they're easy pickings around here - this along a walkway that many of us locals use - and hopes of getting out into the landscapes this afternoon seem dashed. Best wait til more time and make the best of it - looks like weather could be better for a few days.

This is pre-sunrise, hence that blue on the outer stone. I am always drawn to warm glows from windows especially when the view inside is as intriguing as this. Perspectively corrected image as I wasn't totally true to it - this was a quick snap - and some shadow/highlights, but not much.

Lens was my old metal battered tank of the manual everything, Nikkor 135mm f2, closed down by 1 stop, to help with depth of field (focus intentionally set to just beyond the outer glass, known as hyper-focus*, thus extending d.o.f) and pic remains uncropped. And handheld.

With all the Vibration reduction systems in this world and however high the iso DSLRs get to, you just wouldn't get this clean simplicity with a plastic bodied, slow and variably apertured wide-range zoom, like I used yesterday - though of course, these DO have their place in our kit bags.

* Hyperfocus works on the principle that a 'satisfactory' level of sharpness extends beyond the actual point of focus by two-thirds and one-third in front.
