Reinvention

Today we drove home via the east coast and Kaikoura.  This coastal highway was badly affected by the November 2016 earthquake.  The blip was taken at Rakautara where we had lunch.  During the earthquake massive landslides took out the road and the railway along this coastline.  Coastal uplift here brought the seabed up several metres.  It took two years to have the road and rail functioning again.  The road designers have used the opportunity to create bigger pull outs with picnic tables and bathrooms and information panels.  Perfect for photographers.  The caravan called Nins Bin has been a feature on this coast for years selling cooked crayfish/lobster to travellers.
There is still a lot of roading engineering  happening and waiting at all the stop goes made the trip seem longer but after leaving Christchurch at 10 am we arrived home at 5.30 pm.
