A Socially-Distanced Day Out

We decided to escape today for a socially-distanced day out at one of our favourite places - Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire. It turned out to be a lovely autumn day with lots of photo opportunities.

A highlight was this photo, taken in the neighbouring Studley Royal Deer Park, of a stag "kissing" a member of his harem - and the first extra was taken a moment later as she looked lovingly up at him (note the two other does who decided to photobomb the tender moment!!).

The second extra shows the ruined abbey in the late afternoon light.

Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in the country. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for 407 years, becoming one of the great monasteries in England until being pillaged, by order of Henry VIII, in 1533.

If you're interested, there's a few more of my photos in a Google Album, here.
