Calman-coille..or wood-pigeon

In Ravenscraig Park not far from home, I came across this handsome bird, perched on an old tree trunk, as if posing to be photographed. In Gaelic they call it a calman-coille which to me sounds much more in character than the mere common wood-pigeon in English.

There are large numbers of these birds in the park, but I've never come across one posing so stylishly before..usually they fly off when I get this close.

Besides the bird, I also liked the character of the tree trunk, which I think sets the scene nicely.
