La vida de Annie

By Annie

A path...

...to where? Maybe a bit of Elgar will help. Or a spot of poetry:

UNCAGED

What if, of a sudden, one found the cage door
Flung open, wide?
The horizon beckoning, would you step outside?
Too long has this prison been seen as a safety net
For the one locked in.
Like a bird that is suddenly freed
It stands on the wire's edge not sure
Whether to fly away
As if it has forgotten the wind upon its wings.
But a tiger's spirit kept behind iron bars
Still prowls with hunger, eyes burning past the walls
Of jails that block the wilderness' call,
For the zoos that keep us tamed
Are made by lonely men whose hearts stay small
And stall the stride that is unchained
Replacing dry comfort for the liberating rain.

Inside the hidden heart there hides a drum
That leaps in song from a freedom lover's tongue.
I am one too long in Egypt bound
Who wants escape from slavery once again.
