Life in Sunny Dubai

Birthday BBQ

It is G's birthday on Sunday and when I asked her what she wanted to do, she said she wanted a BBQ, so here we are... waiting for our friends Susan and Gladson to join us.

They'd never done a BBQ in the desert before, so I suggested we meet up while there is still light. It was a good idea. The only problem though was the breeze you get around sunset was stronger than normal and took ages to die down. It was pleasant and didn't make it too cold, but it was impossible to light the BBQ. Eventually, Gladson got in his car and went to buy a gaslighter and cubes. I think it was 9:30 when we finally ate something.

Our guests brought G a slice of honeycake, so we sang for her. She even had a candle to blow out and cleverly did it by flapping her hand rather than blowing on the cake. Smart!

No-one had noticed the passing of time when G suddenly asked, is it Saturday already. It was 12:30!!! Gladson had an online GLS conference to be at and we had OaSis, so we soon packed up and left.

When G & I arrived at 5 pm, there was just one other car in the area, so we chose the next best spot. When we left, there were over twenty groups enjoying the cool weekend evening. Unfortunately, young lads on dune buggies joy riding. I wonder if they have any idea how inconsiderate they are.
