Evolutionary Loop 517

A new work of art has appeared on the Old Aberdeen Campus of the University of Aberdeen. The six metre high bronze sculpture is the work of artist Nasser Azam and was commissioned and gifted to the university by Dr John Sievwright. The sculpture has been installed in front of the recently opened Sir Duncan Rice Library.

The sculpture had the working title Eclectic Grace, but staff and students were given the task of coming up with a new name more reflective of the University of Aberdeen.

The winning entry was Evolutionary Loop 517 to reflect the fact that students and staff are constantly evolving in their experiences and connections at the University of Aberdeen and to represent the age of the University (517 years) when the sculpture was made.
