Hazel Catkins

Catkins are already ripening on the Kentish Cob in our back garden.

As Cobs are self-sterile - and these are male flowers - these particular catkins won't be of any help to us in forming a crop of Cobnuts on this particular bush: for that we rely on pollen from one of the wild Hazels in our or a next door garden fertilizing the female flowers on our bush.

We can however enjoy the sight of these in our garden through the winter months.
