Looking Back and Looking Forward

Dear Diary,

I was in junior high school when I learned the ancient origins of the names for our months and days of the week.  In Roman mythology, Janus was the god of doors, gates, and transitions and became our January.  This god of two faces looked forward and back and that's what we do in January.  I thought these two Mourning doves in Aunties' tree were a perfect representation of Janus and, besides, they are a favorite subject of mine each winter.  Look at those sweet pink toes!

A lovely 5-6 inches of snow yesterday.  It is sure pretty around here.
