Crocuses

Down in the Linda Vista Gardens this morning, measuring the composting area, because we (the Friends of LVG) are hoping to get a grant to improve it and make it useable.

At the moment, there are two large bays, and the gardeners just put anything anywhere, so it is a Mess. They have also run out of space. Somewhere underneath there's probably some good compost, but heaven knows what nasties are also in it, like unkillable seeds and perennial weeds.

As well as the bays, there is a large mound of completely assorted rubbish dating from earlier, which just needs to be dug out and, probably, removed.

We want to create three bays to be used in rotation, one for new material, one for rotting material, and one for finished compost, plus maybe more bays for leaf mould.

This is a large job, but if it goes well, we could end up with a composting facility that could, with the addition of some information boards, be educational as well as an efficient way of producing useable compost.

Meanwhile, those fragile little crocuses are spreading everywhere - over some of the lawns as well the beds! But they look a lot nicer than a blip of a mess of a composting area!
