Incidentally, the words for school' and 'ladder' are the same in Welsh - 'Ysgol'. It's a coincidence' The word for school comes from the Latin 'Schola' (from which English gets, 'school', scholar', etc). The word for ladder comes from the Latin 'Scāla' (from which English gets 'scale' (as in to climb), also escalator etc.
