Gardner's Crescent - Ainsley Gate

Edinburgh has many fine Georgian crescents including Gardner's Crescent.  It was built in the 1820s and originally planned as a 'circus' with a central gated garden.  In 2006 Friends of Gardner's Crescent was formed to restore the authenticity and character of the original garden design.  The Group was chaired by Fred  'Dec' Ainsley who lived on the Crescent and was involved in many local community groups.  The fantastic restoration completed in 2012 included new gateways, new railings to replace the ones removed for the 1940s war effort (based on remnants of the originals), landscaping, planting and benches.  The northern gate was named "Ainsley Gate".  Mr Ainsley died two years later in 2014, aged 93.
