Snail's pace

Snails love living in our agapanthus. They seem to like travelling along the groove in the leaves, like a snail highway. But some unkind person has cut the highway here. What to do? Bravely leap into the abyss, or cautiously reverse? This young chap took the safer option and retreated.

According to my mate Dr Google there are over 1,000 species of native Australian snails and slugs. The ones in our agapanthus though are most likely introduced garden snails. Very rarely, they can make you sick, if they are carrying a parasite called rat lung worm. Yuk.

And I really like this. According to one account (which is disputed), a garden snail’s top speed is 0.048kms per hour.
