Banksia on Eric Street

The Banksia is a very special Australian tree.

All but one of the living Banksia species is endemic to Australia with the vast majority found in sandy or gravelly soils

Banksia is a genus of around 170 species in the plant family Proteaceae. This plant is a "Banksia prionotes" first described in 1840 by English botanist John Lindley.

Rather than on coastal plains or inland reserves this tree is on the verge of our local primary school and is one of 10 trees on Eric Street leading to Cottesloe Beach.

They make for a great display, especially this time of the year when they are in flower
