Folly

Went on walk number 11 today: Nunhide Lane and Horsemoor wood, through beautiful rolling countryside west of Reading. We went on the shorter verison which was supposed to be just over 3 miles but felt like 10!...(my poor feet).

This is the folly built by the Rev. John Wilder, who was the vicar of Sulham for 56 years until 1892. A folly is a building constructed primarily as an ornament, they have no purpose and are often eccentric and have some element of fakery in their construction. They were built for pleasure and I think they're fascinating. This one is stuck right in the middle of a field, and can be seen for miles - wonderful!
