Pencarrow Head lighhouses

Beautiful day for ticking something off the bucket list!

A bike ride out to the Pencarrow Head lighthouses.

There are two lighthouses - one is an old one, the first permanent lighthouse built in NZ (in 1859) and the only one ever with a female lighthouse keeper. it was decommissioned in 1906 when the second light, at sea level was built. This one is unmanned and uses solar power to run it.
