Pyramid

We've walked round the Gosford Estate once before and marvelled at this building. There are lots of things to marvel at in the Gosford Estate. The house itself, of course, is breathtaking. When we went back today we spent much longer there and wandered around the ponds. The estate really is a record of how extreme wealth was put to use in early 19th century in the pursuit of elegance and 'fun' by a dynasty of eccentric Earls.

Here, you're constantly discovering stone painted swans on the corners of walls, fantastical little bothy buildings, unexpected instances of symmetry, the boat house, irrigation channels, specimen trees... but my mind kept being drawn back to the building above; something about its proportions and aspect called to mind 'From Hell' by Alan Moore and all sorts of other esoteric mumbo-jumbo. I've just been finding out what I could about this building and turns out it's probably every bit as shrouded in the occult as I imagined.

An excellent day out for all the family.
