Just one lichen shot

Back from my wonderful Lichen Identification course with John Skinner at Flatford Mill. I have to blip just one lichen, found on a cherry tree. This was the commonest lichen we found on tree trunks and branches - Parmelia sulcata. It is actually quite tolerant of sulphur dioxide pollution, so did quite well over a period when certain other lichens suffered from the high levels of pollution. The key thing is...I can now identify it.

I thoroughly recommend Field Study Council courses, and Flatford Mill in particular - a really enjoyable two and a bit days.
