Port Lane

This is our nearest lane, about a mile from  our home.Today, we cycled there in search of a flock of Golden Plover  which have been resident in the fields either side of the lane. We did eventually  find  about twenty of the plovers but they were fairly distant  and keeping their heads down as there were also  three Red Kites and a couple of  Buzzards patrolling. When seen in flight, the plovers  really do glint beautifully in the sunshine.  However, today, the best bit for us, was coming across several pairs of friends  also out birdwatching or walking.
I am intrigued that  the scientific  name for  Golden Plover is Pluvialis apricaria, as Pluvialis means pertaining to, or  bringing rain, while apricaria means to bask in the sun!
